Description
The Octopus is an artisanal, traditionally produced pestemal towel. This flat woven durable pestemal, makes a great bath towel, shower towel, travel towel, baby blanket, spa towel or beach towel.
The exquisite towel has a lively look in an extraordinary design. Due to the negative weaving pattern visible on the back, the towel is double sided, making it even more special.
We purchase the Octopus traditionally produced pestemal directly from a weaver family in Turkey. This family has been weaving pestemals in their home atelier for many generations. They use various simple machines for the production of hamam towels, for example two types of semi-automatic looms and a small machine to wind up the thread on to the bobbins. The Octopus pestemal is manufactured on a semi-automatic loom, known as a black loom, which is operated by hand and needs to be constantly monitored. Therefore the production is time-consuming and needs a lot of artisanal know-how. The operation of the semi-automatic loom is described in more detail here .
This pestemal comes in six different colours: black, royal blue, red, turquoise, yellow and pink on a white background.
The 180 x 95 cm Octopus pestemals are made out of 100% natural cotton and can be machine washed at 40 degrees.
